Our first 24 hours in Cambridge

Just an update since yesterday.

After arriving, we first unpacked the boxes from Amazon.com, set up a space for Miffy, and inflated the air mattress- which is the only furniture we have right now.

We put away the few things that we had as carry-ons. We went out to explore. About 4 blocks away is Walgreens, so we started there. The snow was slowly coming down. We picked up some snacks and cat food. We grabbed a pizza to go from a place that just opened.

The Comcast cable arrived on time and stayed about an hour setting up everything. We have internet, cable, and telephone service- but no tv or phone yet- but they should arrive by the end of the week.

We went out around 6 to go back out and get a few more things since more snow was in the forecast. We walked to Walgreens, but decided to keep going down the street until we found the grocery store. This was how high the snow piles on the sidewalk are:

The grocery store was on the second floor of a big building and is called Shaw’s. It was about a 20 minute walk back, although it was a little snowy- so we walked on snow, slush, and some sidewalks were really clear. We carried a big duffel bag there, plus 2 plastic bags full back.

It stopped snowing in the late evening, but started again this morning. I think it turned to rain now. We both worked from home this morning, but Benjamin left to go to the office for the rest of the afternoon.

Wow, what an adventure! How exciting! :) (Hmm, maybe I’ve lived in the south too long if I think snow is exciting but you get the point! ;)

Happy to hear you got there o.k. and are finding the things in the surrounding area.
I was wondereing last night if you all had plenty of blankets for sleeping.
We have had snow all day but no accumulation. We love you,

I love the pictures and can hardly believe all that snow on the sidewalks – you are doing great though – what will you do with the snow on the balcony – toss it over?? Miffy is your guard cat. And you have found a grocery, pizza place and drug store. Now, you need a craft store, gym and another restuarant – preferable one that delivers.
Love and hugs, honey. Aunt Patsy

We don’t have a lot of snow on the balcony, maybe 3 inches in some areas because it is covered and has some netting (to keep out the birds). We went to another restaurant last night, it was good. I have seen a few gyms but haven’t stopped by during open hours to get info. We walked by an art store last night- not a craft one- but close!

  5. I just found your blog via twitter… and, wow, I can’t believe you moved here from Kentucky in February. You guys are troopers! Hope this warm weather is helping to make up for such a crazy winter!
